What is a podiatrist?

A podiatrist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating the lower extremities of the body, such as the foot, ankle, or leg.

How do I know if I broke a bone?

Unless you have a severe fracture, it can be difficult to determine if a bone is broken without seeing a doctor. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, tenderness, and bruising. However, we recommend you see us so we can formulate a treatment plan.

What should I do if I sprained my ankle?

If you believe you’ve sprained your ankle, the best thing you can do is stay off your feet and apply ice for roughly 15 minutes at a time. It’s also important to keep it elevated in a tightly wrapped bandage. If it does not heal, surgery is a potential next step.

I noticed a growth on my skin. What should I do?

If you see anything abnormal that doesn’t go away, it’s best to visit us so we can take a sample to see if it’s cancerous.

How is minimally invasive surgery different than regular surgery?

With minimally invasive surgery, we create very small incisions and use other special techniques to limit the damage caused during a surgical procedure. This allows for a much faster recovery time and less pain.

Do I need surgery if I broke a bone?

Fractures will usually not require surgery. In most cases, you will only need a cast as the bones heal. Surgery is necessary when they become misaligned during the break. Each case is different, and we will advise you on which treatment is best for your situation.

How should I prepare before surgery?

If you have an upcoming surgical procedure, the doctor will discuss everything with you in detail, so there are no surprises before or after treatment. Please take a look at our Patient Education page for a list of pre- and post-op instructions and let us know if you have any additional questions.

How soon can I return to normal activities after surgery?

This will depend on multiple considerations, including the severity of your injury or condition and the type of surgery performed. Even your age can be a determining factor. Ultimately, the doctor will be able to give you an estimated timeline for recovery.
