If you seem to have an abnormal skin condition, you should see a doctor for a skin biopsy. We can use the results to formulate a proper and fully customized treatment plan. Drs. Joseph Uricchio and Cason Quinn are experts in their field who always aim for the greatest patient experience. If you want the best care, SOFLLEX is the place to be.

What is a Skin Biopsy?

To test the affected area of your skin, we will cut and remove a small sample. SOFLLEX will send that sample to a pathologist, who will make a diagnosis. Typically, the results will be available in no more than 10 days.

The actual removal of the skin is a straightforward process and is completed under local anesthetic. There are three types of skin biopsies.

Excisional Biopsy

The doctor will use a scalpel to remove the skin. This process is best for accessing the fatty layer.

Punch Biopsy

We will remove a concentrated area of the skin with a circular tool, which can take a sample from even the superficial fat and dermis.

Shave Biopsy

Meant for only the upper layers of the skin, the doctor uses a razor-like tool to remove a small piece.

What a Skin Biopsy Can Tell Us

Skin biopsies can lead to the diagnosis of numerous skin conditions. Some of these include:

  • Skin cancer
  • Eczema
  • Fungal infection
  • Psoriasis
  • Bacterial infection

Treatment After a Skin Biopsy

After we receive the results of your skin biopsy, it is time to discuss our next steps. In some cases, no treatment or minimal treatment will be the answer. Other results could lead to more complex solutions. Whatever the case may be, we will discuss everything thoroughly, so you are fully prepared with what to expect. If you ever have any questions, we are happy to answer them.
