Tendon Tears / Ruptures

Contact Us

Tendons are fibrous soft tissues that attach your muscle to the bone, and pressure is applied to them as you move. In some cases, the force from moving can cause the tendon to tear or rupture. This can cause severe pain and lead to permanent issues if not treated.

When you come to SOFLLEX, you can only expect the best. Our doctors and medical team have the skill and knowledge it takes to give you the best possible treatment.

What are Tendon Tears?

Tendon ruptures are partial or complete tears in the tendons. They can be the result of a singular incident that causes a lot of pain, or they can be from leaving a case of tendinitis untreated for an extended time.

Types of Tendon Tears

There are many types of tendon tears, but here are three of the most common ones.

Achilles

If you’ve torn your Achilles tendon, you’ll probably have a difficult time walking – if you can even put weight on it in the first place. Located between the heel and calf, it’s necessary as you push off with your foot when walking or running.

Biceps

The biceps are needed to function as the elbow’s flexor. Proximal ruptures of the biceps occur at the connection between the biceps and shoulder.

Rotator Cuff

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles used to raise and rotate your arm. While this type of injury is rare, a tear can be very painful.

Symptoms of Tendon Tears

  • Severe pain
  • The affected area looks deformed
  • Feeling or hearing a popping sound
  • Unable to move the affected area
  • Sudden bruising
  • Feeling weak

Treatment for Tendon Tears

Just like tendinitis, it’s important to follow the RICE procedure: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Beyond that, treatments can vary depending on the location of the tear, so it’s essential to see a podiatrist for a proper diagnosis. However, in most cases, the preferred treatment will not involve surgery.
